El Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (INCOFER) anunció que el servicio de trenes de pasajeros en el Gran Área Metropolitana (GAM) se prestará con normalidad hasta el martes 23 de diciembre del 2025. A partir del 24 de diciembre y hasta el 2 de enero del 2026, el servicio de trenes quedará suspendido para permitir la realización de obras y trabajos de mantenimiento.
Servicio de trenes se detiene por trabajos de mantenimiento
Según informó la institución, la suspensión del servicio de trenes de pasajeros abarca cuatro días hábiles en los que INCOFER ejecutará labores enmarcadas dentro del programa PROERI. Entre las intervenciones previstas se incluyen obras en el puente de salida oeste de la Estación del Atlántico, el puente Calderón, el puente “Los Negritos” en Barrio Dent y el puente Español en Curridabat.
Adicionalmente, durante este periodo sin servicio de trenes se realizarán trabajos de mantenimiento de la vía férrea en sectores como Curridabat y La Sabana, así como labores de mantenimiento en los trenes y equipos rodantes. El objetivo es aprovechar los días de menor demanda al final del año para intervenir la infraestructura ferroviaria con el menor impacto posible en las personas usuarias.
Servicio de trenes regresará el 5 de enero con horario habitual
INCOFER indicó que el servicio de trenes de pasajeros en el GAM volverá a operar a partir del lunes 5 de enero del 2026, en el horario habitual. Los usuarios pueden consultar los detalles de los horarios del servicio de trenes en las redes sociales institucionales, el canal de WhatsApp del Instituto y el sitio web oficial www.incofer.go.cr.
Álvaro Bermúdez Peña, presidente ejecutivo de INCOFER, explicó que este año el servicio de trenes de pasajeros estará suspendido durante cuatro días hábiles, concentrando en ese lapso los trabajos para mejorar la vía férrea y los equipos rodantes. Estas tareas se programan en este periodo con el fin de generar la menor afectación posible a las personas pasajeras que a diario utilizan el servicio de trenes.
Servicio de trenes y planificación de usuarios en fin y principio de año
Con esta suspensión temporal del servicio de trenes, INCOFER recomienda a las personas usuarias planificar con anticipación sus desplazamientos durante las fechas comprendidas entre el 24 de diciembre y el 2 de enero. Quienes dependen del tren para movilizarse en el GAM deberán optar por rutas alternativas de transporte público o privado mientras se completan los trabajos programados.
La institución subraya que estas intervenciones forman parte de los esfuerzos continuos por mejorar la seguridad y la calidad del servicio de trenes de pasajeros en el país. Una vez concluidas las labores, se espera que la infraestructura y el material rodante estén en mejores condiciones para atender la demanda del 2026 con mayor confiabilidad.
