Rocas, hielo y lodo sepultaron la vieja Yungay en minutos. Miles de personas murieron. La regi\u00f3n qued\u00f3 marcada para siempre.<br data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"955\" \/>Hoy, el sitio original funciona como cementerio y memorial. Hay placas, cruces y restos de calles. Una colina cercana permite ver la huella del desastre. El silencio invita al respeto.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1141\" data-end=\"1173\">Puerta a la Cordillera Blanca<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1174\" data-end=\"1573\">Yungay est\u00e1 en la antesala de la Cordillera Blanca. Por eso es base natural para caminantes y escaladores. Huaraz sigue siendo el centro log\u00edstico. Aun as\u00ed, detenerse en Yungay agrega contexto hist\u00f3rico al viaje.<br data-start=\"1386\" data-end=\"1389\" \/>Desde Huaraz salen excursiones a lagunas glaciares y miradores. Muchos itinerarios pasan por Yungay o cerca.
